We believe Thomas Divide has not only captured the rustic smoky mountain charm in their community design they preserved it and created an idyllic setting to build a smoky mountain Vacation cabin.
We chose to build our vacation cabin here in this beautiful part of the smoky mountains over 30 years ago. The peaceful rustic pasture surrounded by scenic mountains, walk on access to hiking and riding trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and short distance to the small town of Bryson City made every vacation here a perfect postcard in time. But when our neighbors “moved on” and their old property was to become the next new residential community in the smoky mountains, we feared the beauty and charm of our valley would be lost to modern over development. When we found out that our new neighbors ( The Settlement at Thomas Divide ) shared our same enthusiasm and appreciation for the smoky mountain outdoor lifestyle; our worries turned to excitement. Our new friends at Thomas Divide realized that their large well established pasture and beautiful mountain riding trails were the perfect countryside for horses and chose to build 28 acres of equine facilities. They also designed large acre plus lots to keep the forested appearance and the privacy of each homestead. They even restored the old farm house as an office/community center with real mountain character. We are truly thrilled that our neighbors at Thomas Divide chose to develop their new residential community in our valley and we are eager to meet the lucky neighbors that take advantage of the opportunity to join us in living the smoky mountain outdoor lifestyle.
A “Log Raising” is upon us!
Because of the interest in a “Log Raising”, we are doing one near Bryson City, NC on Saturday, September 11th at “The Settlement at Thomas Divide”. For those of you who think that the “old bod” is not up to it, let me tell you that it just might be the healthiest thing you can do for yourself and a special way to commemorate this 9/11.
You will see and experience the construction of the outside four log walls of a “Fireside” log home from the floor system up. It’s not that you will see a log home built in a day, but you will see the exterior log walls constructed in a day and see how we put them together. It will be great fun and exercise (if you choose to be “hands on” but you can just observe), and we will help you educate yourself in the ways of log home construction. Not all the logs are 16 feet long, in fact only a small percent of them are, as most logs between windows and doors and fireplace openings are short. But just being here and witnessing the process and the accuracy of everything will really advance your knowledge and appreciation for log homes.
We will meet on the job site at 9:00 am and conclude around 3:00 pm or so.
We will provide coffee and doughnuts in the morning and a light lunch around noon for our crews, guests, and participants.
To know how many to plan for and name tags, please register for the “Log Raising” by calling our office at 1.800.521.5647 to let us know you’re coming so we’ll know how many to expect.
